Calm Your Mind, Strengthen Your Body

FAQs

New to Yoga?

I'm here to help!  I recommend Gentle Yoga, Chair Yoga or Private Lessons. Asanas (Postures) can be easily modified to be enjoyed by everyone.  At any given time, many of my students are relative beginners and many are absolute beginners.

When can I start?

You are welcome to attend any ongoing yoga class at Blissful Energy Yoga at any time, either on a drop-in basis or with the purchase of one of our punch cards. If it's your first time in class, please let me know (you probably won't be the only one!).  Also, please inform me of any medical concerns so that I can make sure you are comfortable and performing postures safely.

What should I bring and how should I dress?

We have mats, straps and props for your use, or you may prefer to bring your own. Please wear loose-fitting pants or leggings that do not cover the feet. Do not eat for at least an hour or two before class to avoid discomfort.

Do I have to be really limber and in good shape?

No. In fact the very reason many people choose yoga is to become more limber, increase their range of motion and tone and strengthen their bodies. Each class encourages you to move at your own pace and within your own comfort zone.

What can I expect to get out of Yoga?

Yoga is more than just physical -- it incorporates mind, body and soul. Yoga is unique because we connect the movement of the body and the fluctuations of the mind to the rhythm of our breath. Connecting the mind, body, and breath helps us to become more aware of our experiences from moment to moment. The awareness that we cultivate is what makes yoga a practice, rather than a task or a goal to be completed. Your body will most likely become much more flexible by doing yoga as the space inside of you opens and your muscles lengthen.  Your mind will become more relaxed and you will likely experience a high level of stress reduction.

Be patient with yourself and this new experience.  You will be getting in touch with and use muscles you didn't know you had (but in a non-aggressive, mindful way).

Why Private Instruction?

Yoga classes are a very effective way of learning and practicing yoga, though yoga remains very much an individual
practice.
There are times when it is appropriate for a student of yoga to consider private instruction. Such times include when a student:

  • is just getting started with yoga,

  • has concerns about previous injuries or is recovering from illness,

  • seeks to overcome plateaus in his or her own practice, or

  • would like personal attention in developing a customized daily practice, or help in modifying postures to accommodate individual physical abilities.

Small group sessions are also available so that you can split the cost with 1 or 2 other people.  For more information, or to make an appointment, please call me at (503) 702-7746.
